Hello Everyone,

I'm pleased to announce that Chris Townsend has joined Backpacking Light's editorial team as our Senior Gear Editor.

Chris brings a wealth of experience, outstanding writing, and an uncanny ability to distill the complexity of gear and apparel systems into a style that is easily understandable, interesting, and objective.

It will take a little time to bring Chris up to speed with our editorial process, but we're really looking forward to being able to offer a VERY exciting gear & apparel review calendar in 2008 and beyond with Chris at the helm!

This is really interesting news, having read a few of his books and always liking his contributions. Also nice to have some European input.

Chris isn't just one of the most clued-up gear writers out there; as someone who worked (and occasionally shared a beer or a wild camp) with him over 13 years, he's also a jolly nice chap, or, as the Americans might say, "a real swell guy". Congrats to Chris, and to BPL for signing up one of the good guys!

I've enjoyed reading about and listening to Chris through his TGO connections. It'll be nice to have the different viewpoint, as well as vast experience.
