To Book a Reservation

A non-refundable $250 deposit is required to book an enrollment reservation. This deposit must be made online at the backpackinglight.com website via THIS PAGE. Although this deposit is not refundable, it is transferable to any other school program if needed.

50% of Your Tuition is Due 180 Days Prior to Your Start Date

Including your initial deposit, you must have paid at least 50% of your total tuition cost at least 180 days prior to your course start date.

Full Tuition is Due 90 Days Prior to Your Start Date

Your tuition must be paid in full at least 90 days prior to your course start date.

Late Payments

If your payment is more than 7 days late, your reservation may be cancelled and offered to the next person on the waiting list for your course. If your payment is en route (e.g., in the mail), please let us know via email (school@backpackinglight.com) so we can hold your reservation.

Cancellations and Refunds

You are entitled to a full refund (minus your initial $250 deposit, which can still be transferred to another course) up to 90 days prior to your course start date. If you cancel between 30 and 90 days of your course start date, your entire tuition amount is transferable to another course. If you cancel within 30 days of your course start date, 50% of your tuition amount is transferable to another course.

How to Pay

Deposits can only be made via CREDIT CARD online at the backpackinglight.com website via this page (i.e., the page you are currently viewing). Other payments can be issued by check, money order, Paypal, or Credit Card. Paypal transactions are subject to an additional 5% processing fee.

We will email you your statement, and payment invoices approximately 30 days prior to your payment due date(s).

How to Enroll in a Course

  1. Review our course offering by clicking the "SCHOOL" tab or visiting Course Catalog Page.
  2. Once you find a course you want to take, note the "COURSE ID" and DATE, then click the "ENROLL" button next to that course, which brings you to the page you are now on.
  3. From the drop-down box to the right, choose the course (based on the Course ID and Date) that you want to take, then click the ADD TO CART button to enroll.
  4. Proceed to checkout to pay the deposit for your course and secure your reservation!

What Happens After I Enroll?

Immediately, you'll receive a confirmation receipt via email. Then, about 90 days prior to your course start date, you'll receive:

  1. A welcome packet that includes a comprehensive gear list, course program information, and travel/logistics details;
  2. Access to Ryan Jordan's "Ultralight Backpacking Boot Camp" self-directed online video course (included with all 2014 courses).
  3. Access to your group course email so you can collaborate with your course mates.
  4. Access to your group's collaborate equipment spreadsheet so you can start planning your gear list, sharing it with others in your course group, and learn from what other people are bringing on your course.

What Should I Do About Travel?

We provide transportation to your course location from a central location in Bozeman, Montana on the morning of your course start date. We provide transportation from your course location back to Bozeman on the evening of your course start date.

When Does Enrollment Close?

When the course is full, or 14 days prior to the course start date, whichever comes first.
