Trek Overview
This trek is offered by MONTANA COUNCIL, B.S.A.
This trek provides education to Scouts about the latest advances in lightweight backpacking gear and techniques, including packing systems, sleep systems, cooking systems, clothing systems, shelter systems, and more, and is tailored to the dynamics of Boy Scout High Adventure Crews and Scout Troops.
The purpose of this course is to train Scouts in the following:
- The equipment, skills, and philosophy of ultralight backpacking
- Safety protocols for ultralight wilderness trekking
- Teaching and demonstration methods for ultralight skills
- Incorporating ultralight backpacking into the Patrol Method
- Ultralight backpacking's relationship to the Scout Oath, Law, and Motto

Schedule: This trek starts with a morning classroom session in the comfort of our remote mountain retreat center. Then, you and your crew embark on a 6-day, 5-night journey so you can practice and learn new skills in a backcountry environment. We'll end your trek back at our retreat center with a short debrief.
