Overview

The Ultimate Survival Sparkie is designed and built on the same principles as Ultimate Survivals BlastMatch product - - only the Sparkie is much smaller and lighter. The device fits easily into your hand at just over two inches in length, the body is made of ABS plastic with a rubberized handle, and the striker rod is constructed of tungsten carbide.

Operation

The Sparkie is a one-handed device. The user holds the device against a hard surface and pushes down on it, sending a shower of sparks over the area you're trying to light. The Sparkie works well with another Ultimate Survival product, Wetfire Tinder.

Is the Sparkie Right for You?

Something to remember with the Ultimate Survival Sparkie is that it is a mechanical device, and, like all mechanical devices, it can fail. There are purists out there who wouldn't think of taking a mechanical fire-starter into the woods with them. Then again there are also purists who wouldn't think of bringing a sleeping bag with them into the woods. Decide where you lie on this spectrum, and if the Sparkie isn't right for you, consider another fire starting method.
