Backpacking Light Arctic Dry Pack

"An internal frame pack harness/dry bag combo for wilderness travel. Designed for the Arctic1000 expedition and manufactured exclusively for BackpackingLight.com by ULA..."

What People have been Saying

This pack has been discussed in this thread at the BPL Forums. Also, read more about the expedition that inspired this pack at Arctic1000.com. The detailed descriptions that describe the pack at Arctic1000.com describe an early prototype. The version that will ship has undergone minor modifications and has significant improvements with respect to load carrying and usability.

  • Dry bag style pack bag for complete waterproof protection. Included dry bags have inflation valves to deflate packbag while hiking and inflate packbag while river crossing, packrafting, etc.
  • Waterproof pack bags can double in-camp food storage, ground cloth, etc.
  • Harness style pack allows different sized pack bags to be used for different load volumes (two sizes included, 50L and 65L)
  • Large, flat front panel pocket with open mesh and zipper provides low-profile storage with drainage for access to storm clothing, water bladder, etc.
  • Beavertail-style front panel provides additional storage options under the panel, commonly used for storing a wet tarp/tent.
  • Large zippered hip belt pockets can be used for food storage (approximately 1,000 calories of dense foods), camera, chemical water treatment, trail essentials, etc.
  • Bottom of shoulder straps attach directly to slots in bottom of included pack bags - providing a more dynamic suspension for better load stability on rough terrain, and more efficient use of upper body energy (via wider range of allowable body motion) than when shoulder straps are sewn directly to pack.
  • Foam backpanel provides comfort while hiking and insulation for sleeping.
  • Harness designed with very low-absorption construction to minimize water weight gain in response to precipitation and immersion.
  • Wide, double buckle hip belt with thin padding remains flexible for comfort while providing sufficient surface area for heavy load transfer.
  • Front panel daisy chain provides lash points for ice axe, trekking poles, sleeping pads, etc.
  • Bear canisters don't need to be put inside the pack bag - simply load it on top of the bag (sideways) and cinch down the top strap of the harness to secure.
  • Two pair of compression straps distribute compression load across the front (beavertail) panel and provide the ability to fine tune load size in combination with dry bag (pack bag) size and inflation of the bags using their purge/fill valves).
  • Multiple small dry bags can easily be stacked (sideways) or mixed and matched with bigger dry bags for flexible load distribution and organization.

Find your fit:

Have a friend measure from the base of your neck (tuck in your chin & measure from the C7 vertebra - it sticks out) to an imaginary line drawn across your iliac crest (your hipbones).  Generally, adults will be 16" - 22".
