Article Summary:
The trek up to Everest Base Camp is hardly a backcountry experience. In fact, I was quite surprised at the amount of technology that has spread throughout the area. In Lukla and Namche, there was satellite TV, movies, telephones, and high speed internet cafes. Just because it's there does not mean you have to use it, but I did indulge a little. With a short email, my family was put at ease after not hearing from me for thirteen days.
