ReviveX Down Cleaner - 12 oz Bottle

"Restore loft to your down jackets, down sleeping bags, and other down gear..."

ReviveX Down Cleaner gently restores loft and warmth to down jackets, sleeping bags, comforters and pillows. Unlike household laundry soaps, this specialized commercial-grade formula cleans without detergents and preserves the natural oils in down. Recommended by many top down jacket, sleeping bag and comforter manufacturers.

Backpacking Light Magazine Staff Comments

The ultralight backpacker pays careful attention to the performance:weight ratio of his/her gear. Because down garments and sleeping bags offer some of the biggest weight savings in your pack, it only makes sense that special attention should be paid to keeping them clean. This is especially true for ultralight clothing and sleeping bags that don't have a lot of down fill to start with. In many ways, these garments and bags are more sensitive to down degradation from body oils, dirt, and sweat than their beefier not-so-light cousins.

Take care of your ultralight down garments, and they'll give you years of service. After a season of hard use by most backpackers, loft can be restored by using a quality down cleaner such as ReviveX Down Cleaner once per year. The thru-hiker that lives in her bag for months at a time should consider washing her bag in down cleaner every 30 nights spent on the trail. Waiting too long between washings will reduce the chance that you'll be able to restore your bag to its full original loft.

Here's what we think about ReviveX Down Cleaner relative to other brands (including Nikwax Down Wash): ReviveX Down Cleaner leaves the least amount of unwashable residue on the down (evidenced by washing raw 850-fill down and CDC plumes in various commercial formulations, rinsing it 3X, and then re-measuring loft with a standard fill cylinder power test - using this method, we found ReviveX Down Cleaner to restore loft 8-15% better than competing products). Many down cleaners leave residues that either do not rinse out (thus causing plumes to stick together, which results in inhibition of loft), or require 6-12 rinses (maybe more?) to clean. ReviveX Down Cleaner also seems to restore odor better, and unlike Nikwax Down Wash, doesn't leave that strange "funky" odor that is so common with many Nikwax products.
