Paramo has a very unique method for waterproofing - there is no membrane, but instead has a dwr shell with a pump liner that moves liquid water, whether rain or sweat, away from you faster than it can fall in. It works marvelously, is really breathable, but is warm, heavy, and expensive (the weight is why it is only a 4). This makes it great for cold weather, wet or dry. I justify the weight because the superb breathability makes it useful as a rain coat, insulation, and a windcoat. No soft shell is needed, and you can just put it on and forget about it, no matter what the conditions do. the fabric is soft and comfortable to wear. The Aspira Jacket has several pockets in the front, and all are above where a climbing harness goes. More pockets are nice in a jacket for cold weather use, when you can wear it all day.

Paramo Directional Waterproofs are the best thing going for colder weather, hands down. Just ask the Brits. You'll still want something lighter and less insulated for the warmer months. In CO, though, there are only 2-3 warmer months were it doesn't come.
