Titanium Double Wall Cup 300, Folding Handle, capacity 10.6 oz., #MG-052FH, $34.95 3.3 oz.
I bought this cup to solve a trivial creature comfort problem: how to make an excellent cup of black coffee in the field.
My initial solution was to purchase an MSR single wall titanium cup (about 1 oz.) and the MSR coffee filter (about 1 oz.). This combination does make an excellent cup of coffee. However, the single wall cup has two slight problems. First it transfers heat so substantially that shortly after you have made the coffee, the cup is still quite hot to the lips, hot to the point of discomfort. Second, because it does transfer so much heat, the coffee does not stay warm for as long as I would like to.
The Snow Peak double wall titanium cup solves both those problems. Because of the double wall construction, the cup is never too hot for your lips and it retains heat as opposed to transfers heat. For me, the coffee was warm enough up to 10 minutes from the point that I started drinking, even with temperatures below 40F. With the single wall titanium cup it was cooler than I like after about five minutes under similar conditions.
I realize that this is an especially trivial report on a product. However, for those who really do like a good cup of coffee in the field, the combination of the Snow Peak double wall cup and MSR coffee filter is a decent solution. (The MSR filter is about $20: available from REI.)
I now use this cup at home for my daily caffeine fix: it keeps coffee/tea warm for quite awhile at room temperature.
