i recently got the cocoon pro 90 balaclava. i was really excited about it, because it'll round off my winter clothing/sleep system really nicely.
i'm very impressed w/ it. my biggest concern though was that there was no way to vent. it was either on or off. i knew w/ the slightest activity while wearing it, i would over heat.
so i added a zipper.
as it came in the mail it weighed 1.9ozs on the digital postal scale. after removing most of the middle seam in front, & adding a zipper, it increased to 2.0 on that scale.
the zipper was a 9" zipper that happened to already be here. i removed part of it so it ended up being about 7" long.
i'm greatly satisfied w/ the modification.
now it's perfect to suit my needs. ...tim


recently i decided that this peice would be even better w/ more versitility, so i replaced the first zipper w/ a sepperating zipper.

Like the previous reviewer, I did a modification of the Pro-90 hood. I cut the front piece all the way down and sewed on omnitape velcro (doesn't catch on clothes). I also modified the elastic cords to accommodate the change. I think my cord mod is slightly better than that of the previous reviewer.

With this modification, a cap that was formerly ideal for sleeping but good for nothing else became near ideal for any kind of cold weather activity. It can be a slight nuisance to strap the cap on, but after that it's a pleasure to use and much more practical than a down hood.
