I'm not sure whether to review these in raingear or softshell clothing, because they're both. They are all-day pants, rather than rain pants to pull on over hiking pants and are made of a fabric called Trinity that is both waterproof and breathable. They are perfect for 3-season wear here in the soggy Pacific Northwest where it has rained and the brush is wet, might rain but I don't want to put on an extra waterproof layer, or is raining. I have worn them in snow, rain, and dry weather when I thought it was going to rain, and I was always comfortable in them. They're great for bashing through wet brush. A few times they looked like they were wetting through near my boots, but my legs stayed completely dry. The fabric is exactly what I've been looking for - comfortable for all-day wear that keeps me dry so I don't have to put on another waterproof layer that usually makes me too hot. I'd give them a 5 but for the lack of a cargo pocket. The tiny, zippered back pocket doesn't cut it for all-day use. The sizing runs small.
