Cabelas XPG Bivy is Big for Big Guys. This is my first bivy purchase and it is heavier than many of the bivy's I read about on BPL. However, 15oz for a 40"X90" bivy is pretty good. It breaths well and protects you from the elements. I use it in conjuction with a Cabelas XPG wing. One of my backpacking buddies has the REI Minimalist Bivy to use in conjunction with the tarp - and based on both bivy's I think the XPG is made much better. Besides there are not many Bivy's that can handle my shoulders and a Big Agnes Horse Thief bag. Dock it a point for weight - but other than that it is a great bivy for big guys. And Oh - It is a pretty good value - about $90.00. Hard to beat for the price as well.

On a recent trip to WY I spent a night in this sack under a shelter roof with wind blown rain. While the bivy turned some of the fine spray it did not turn the actual wind driven rain that made it six feet under the roof. I woke in the middle of the night to a wet to very damp hood on my down sleeping bag. This could have been a really bad happening had this not been a one night deal. No rain actually ran in the face opening but it soaked in through the fabric into the sleeping bags hood. While this bivy might keep your bag clean I can't trust it ever again to keep me dry under any circumstance . Just a heads up for any that think one of these and a tarp will get them through a trip in the back country.
