I've used RailRider shirts for about 5 years now. The RR Adventure Shirt has become a core piece of my warm weather hiking kit. It is well made, cool in hot weather, and very durable.

I wear L shirts and find the sizing consistent with others. But a roomy fit is more comfortable in hot weather to me.

The Adventure shirt is nearly the same as the RR Eco-Mesh shirt. RR replaces elastic cuffs on the sleeves with a button placket for the Adventure. Also the Adventure shirt has buttons on the front. The button sleeves allow much more adjustability for venting options. It's more comfortable to wear for several days.

As with many synthetic fabrics it does carry some stink. But the shirt launders well and washing with detergent does allow me to keep it in the house between hikes.

I have to be careful with sun exposure. The RR Adventure shirt works well for me in hot weather and intense sun light.

I'm also a huge fan of the RR Adventure shirt. I've used it on a couple PCT thru-hikes and many smaller trips and it is the most versatile article of clothing I've ever used. I took two and alternated so that I could rinse/wash one of them out daily. I never had a problem with stink or with it getting scratchy this way. The shirt shows virtually no signs of wear. I've comfortably worn it as a baselayer in sub-freezing temperatures and in temps over 110 degrees. Remarkably, it seems just as cool, if not cooler, than a short-sleeve shirt in really hot weather.

I've had mine out several times now in temps up in the 90's and was very pleased with the performance. The shirt really breathes well. I hike mostly in the desert and need full sun protection as well as ruggedness to withstand all the hostile underbrush. When the temps cross 80 degrees, I will move away from the merino wool and over to this.

Check out travelcountry.com for the eco-mesh shirt. They have free shipping whereas Railriders charges a pretty hefty fee. I've been using this shirt for years and consider it the best Sierra shirt I've ever come across. Great venting and breathability, dries quickly, light, and good sun protection.
The only difference between the eco-mesh and adventure shirt is velcro vs buttons on neck and sleeves. Both have a chest pocket velcro closure tab.

This is a real nice shirt for hot weather. I also own the eco mesh shirt and I like this one better since you can roll up the sleeves better.

There are a few things I don't like however:

1. The front would be nicer if one could unbutton it further.

2. The front pocket is not very secure, I've had stuff fall out of it.

3. The sleeves can be rolled up kind of but the elastic is tight on the arms and becomes uncomfortable

I got mine a few months ago and took it with me as my primary shirt in a 1-week trek through the Pyrenees this summer. Worked stupendously, dries quick (I rinsed it a few times in rivers or streams and it dried real quick), ventilates well when hot. It's a great alternative to having to smother yourself with suntan lotion.

Pocket is useful to stash sunglasses when not needed but not much else as it's vertical and things can drop out.

Highly recommended.

I used the Ecomesh shirt on a desert backpack in SE Utah in May of 2007, and found it absolutely superb for sun protection and comfort. I perspired heavily, but the shirt always dried during a short break, and was comfortable even when wet. It does pick up a bit of body odor after a few days, but I wonder if simply rinsing it would help. I later purchased the Adventure shirt because of the buttons on the neck opening and on the sleeves. I totally agree with Daniel's comments above.

I have been using the similar RR Eco-Mesh for 10 years or more. Basically same shirt as the Adventure Shirt.

It was suggested to me by the departed John O on his forum and he assured me that it was cooler than the Silk Wt Tee from Patagonia which it replaced. I bought a larger version recently as I have grown with age. The woven material does not stretch, so better to go larger than smaller. That said the woven material appears to me to be cooler than all the wicking knit tops I have tried (including RR) which tend to cling to you. Also they no longer make a short sleeve version so I had the sleeves cut off of one of mine. The elastic cuffs on the Eco proved too warm. Adventure doesn't have elastic cuffs so may be OK.

You probably won't ever wear them out! Stay away from any light blue unless you want to be mistaken for a doctor wearing scrubs.

I have worn this shirt on several hikes that involved stretches of hot weather, full sun hiking interspersed with several deep-water river crossings and found it ideal for these conditions. The shirt protects my delicate Irish skin from sunburn and it dries quickly. With a wide-brimmed hat and a suitable pair of quick-drying nylon trousers like the REI Saraha, I'm good.

I much prefer to wear clothing as a means of defense against insects and sunburn than to goop on loads of bug-dope and sunscreen. This shirt fits the bill for me.

I might have given this shirt a 4 out of 5 because I wish it had a regular shirt collar instead of the standup-type it comes with, but that's a personal gripe that I won't hold against in in this review.
