Rating: 4 / 5
This is the second pair of gaiters I have ever tried on or owned. I got them because they are 7 oz, (OR's specs) compared to the heavier Crocodiles (10.2 oz.), which are apparently famous and used a lot by trekkers.

I give these a 4, without using them outside at all, so be aware they may be a 5 for a particular use.
I give them a 4 because of two major issues for me:
(1) the clip at the top is weak looking and does not open well (here it is opened and closed):

(2) they are heavy for an all year gaiter, during light weather, and not as strong as the Crocodiles (according to what I have read). See Crocs at:

Otherwise, the Verglas seem durable, waterproof, and to be what they are advertised as being. They weigh almost as much as the "Crocs," which are the top of the line for "expedition" weight gear, and the Verglas only weigh a few ounces less -- so for me, on inpecting them, they are more of a "town" gaiter.
The "Crocs" appear to be a lot stronger and substantial for the weight range and price, but these are what I will use for trips around the neighborhood or when in deep snow when it happens.
In rough terrain, heavy snow or blizzard like conditions I would go for shoe or boot overs or the 3+ oz. heavier Crocs.
