This stake is light and looks good to go.
Weighs 25 g, or about 1 oz. each. These MSR stakes I bought were pricey at the local gear shop at about $4 each. There are $1.20 SMR aluminum stakes which look to be the same on the Internet for $1.20 at BackCountryGear.com: http://www.backcountrygear.com/catalog/accessdetail.cfm/SMC225
I have not field tested this stake yet. What I like is the red color, can't get lost as easily, it is light weight and may also work in cindery or light volcanic sandy soil w/o big rocks.
It is wide, which is why it is for snow. It has holes down the length to help the packing snow lock it in, and a lip and hole in the top to carry line.
I have read cautions that this design will pull out in powder, so I am looking at getting at least 4 TAnchors, by SMC (Seattle Manufacturing Company), about $6.50 to compare with this stake.
They are described at:
http://www.smcgear.net/products.asp?cat=4&pid=56
Again, I have not field tested this. I am looking for comments by anyone who has and how to best use this stake.
