This is a great hat.
It is synthetic (Polartec) and does hold sweat when exerting in cold weather and snow when your head gets overheated. But it stays warm and dries well.
It is listed as 2 oz., but I swear it is less and my scale isn't that accurate.
I wear it over a balaclava in colder air conditions, wind -- MH powerstretch or butter (I forget which I bought, but I think it is the powerstretch).
It also fits well under my rain and trekking hat, even when worn over a balaclava. Since it fits in my pocket I can carry it when going walking, because it compresses and is quite small and light weight.
So for some $15 it is my always with me and always worn cap, even in the house, in the winter weather or cool evenings and sleeping hat on cold nights. It is soft and fits over the top of my ears, but because it is soft I can put my glasses on or sunglasses over the top of it with no problem and they stay in place -- instead of having to take it off, put the glasses on, and then put the hat back on, as happens with my old wool stocking cap.
So far it has shown no wear and it is durable and strong. Thus the 5. Finally, I like the reddish brown color because it is easy to find and hard to leave behind in the snow.
