Decided to switch to an alcohol stove for a upcoming trip and picked up the Evernew. It was a bit hard to find in stock, but a little google fu got one to my door. It weighs 1.2 0z with an additional 0.5 oz for the pot stand. The pot stand sits securely in the stove and is very stable for my SP 700 mug.
Look at that flame!
Initial testing in my kitchen, with 30ml denatured alcohol and no pot stand yielded a boil time of around 6:30 and a total burn time of 11:30. It primed in less than 30sec and I was able to start it with a fire steel on the first strike.
Once I added the cross stand and filled the stove to the max line (2.3oz). I found it burned much hotter, with a boil time of around 5:30 min, but burned out in 18:45. So, I will need to do some more testing with equivalent amounts of alcohol.
Another burn test yielded a burn time of 34min with 60ml of fuel and the pot sitting directly on top of the stove, as per the first test. Boil time was closer to 7 minutes and I stopped time when the water stopped boiling.
Overall I am very happy with it so far, and the Ti gets a very nice coloring after a few burns.
The only con is the cost, but Ti has gotten more expensive over the last few years.
