Sure you can buy the Gossamer Gear polycro ground cloth. Lightweight, cheapish, and plenty durable. But what if you don't want to bother paying for shipping, and want a cheapo/ultralight ground cloth ahora? Enter .7 mil painter's cloth found in wal-mart or any hardware store. For around $1 you get 2 ground sheets. Sure the material is thin, very thin in fact. I used one of these for 39 nights, 750 miles, on the Grand Enchantment Trail. Sometimes I would be good and clear all debris out from under the groundsheet before lying on top of it. Other nights I was more tired and definitely put weight on top of this groundsheet while there were twigs and rocks and pinecones underneath. The bottom line: only one tiny hole in this thing after loads of use.
