I was HMG's first customer for their packs and I must say I am very impressed. As their first customer they still had a few issues to work out with the hip belt pockets and their zippers but they were great about taking the pack back and sending me a new one if there was something wrong with it. They seemed to have worked out all the issues.

As a female hiker I really enjoy their pack. I was trading in a Gregory jade 50 for this one and love it so much more. Initially, when buying a pack I thought I HAD to have a women's pack because all the weight sits on our hips so the hip belt has to be made for a women's hips. Then we balance different and all. But honestly I don't think it makes that much of a difference if ultralight is your style. I do find myself switching back and forth between carrying the weight on my shoulders and on my hips sometimes. I think that's just because its easy to do and there aren't so many extra straps that involve tweaking. The hip belt is one of the more comfortable hip belt's I’ve worn.

Only thing I would say is make sure you order the right size. I'm a women's small and their regular small fits me PERFECT. But make sure all your gear is going to fit in the small too. The first small they sent me was teeny tiny in volume and they made me a new one that was closer in volume to the medium - it was perfect. I was the first small that was ever ordered though so I'm not sure which one they made to be their standard small pack.

Price comparison from GearBuyer: Gregory Jade 50 - Women's priced at: $129.97 - $229.00
