well, i purchased this pack used from another BPL member. It looked brand new. upon first receiving it i was amazed at the craftsmanship and quality involved in construction. this is my first pack from MLD.
I have only used this pack on one trip so take this review for what its worth.
I used this pack on a 3 day trip through the rugged and wild Gila wilderness in NM. Fully loaded with food and 1 liter of water i was at about 13-14lbs. i found that with my 3 season gear, slightly pared down for summer, i was able to have 3 days worth of food without using the extension collar. i realized that this size pack was perfect for me, in that i had room for winter gear or long hikes because of the extra room. good choice of volume size.
I used a ccf pad for the frame, which worked wonderfully, it fit perfectly. one of my concerns about this pack was the compression, which turned out to work wonderfully. the pack was very comfortable the whole trip. i never once thought about it, which is a good thing. one thing i really liked was that i was able to store everything i needed for the day in the outside pockets, not having to access the main compartment at all during the day. this was really helpful and made my breaks so much easier.
but here is where the pack really shone: on the second day we took a "short cut" which was anything but short, and we had to go through all sorts of brush, thorns, granite fields, streams etc. this pack took a serious beating. my wool shirt had holes in it, my lower legs were all cut up and took 3 weeks to heal, the mesh in my shoes was torn up. but... my super prophet looked brand new.
i found that the engineering on these packs is very smart, from the trekking pole loops to the bungee pulls, everything works out really well for long days on the trail.
kudos to MLD for producing a 5 out of 5 pack. this was the most physically and mentally demanding trip i've ever taken, and this pack really made a difference to me.

getting a new pack was a tough decision for me. being in NZ, you dont get a lot of choice at the local outdoor stores, and getting one made from MLD was going to take time and money, so it had to be right. after several emails later i placed my order... a few weeks passed, then some more... but it was worth the wait, i wasnt disappointed.

i had gone through all of my gear to make sure i had the right volume of pack, checked my torso length, opted for the super version because of the type of terrain and bush i would be trekking through, and added a hip belt pocket... perfect fit for me and my gear.

this pack has been on several outings, and its still looks as good as new. ive had it on one night missions with a light load, doing 9km each way staying in a hut, ive had it on multi day hikes doing over 30km a day staying in my MLD Solomid, and its a pleasure to wear even after ive been wearing it for 11 hours straight.

an all around great pack from MLD... design and build quality are top notch, as is the service, thats why this pack gets a 5... and thats why i have made other purchases from Ron and his team...

thanks MLD
