I have been a long distance backpacker for about 10 years- hiking about 4500mi , including the Appalachian Trail, parts of the Pacific Crest Trail and a few misc others. That whole time I have been on a quest for the perfect pack. I finally found it. This is by far the MOST comfortable pack I have ever worn. You literally forget you are carrying a pack.
I wish it were a little lighter- before this I was carrying a Osprey Aether 45 (no longer made- 2.5 lbs), the large size FF is about 3lb 12 oz- BUT this does include the front balance pockets and a waterproof pack liner, if you removed those- you have a pack around 3 lbs. A much more comfortable pack. The balance pockets keep everything you could possible need right at hand and you have complete range of motion in your shoulders. I have a pinched nerve in my upper back that gets aggravated by the normal pulling back of backpack straps- cinching the sternum strap gives some relief, but the trade off is compromised ability to breathe deeply. None of those things is a problem with the Aarn pack Featherlite Freedom. I wish it were a little smaller pack- 50l is a little larger than I need, I think it could be made out of slightly lighter material to save some weight.
oh yes- another bonus- the 3d mesh material the back and shoulder straps are made of is SOOOO breathable and comfortable.
