This jacket is new to the market and Crux as a company is still relatively unknown on this side of the Atlantic pond. But they make great stuff.. bomber but lightweight and primarily targeted for the climbing community (see Ryan Jordan's review of the AK 47 pack).

The Plasms jacket is the world's first eEVENT fabric down jacket with bonded seams and water resistant zipper. The result is a warm belay-style down jacket that is completely waterproof but very breathable.

The fit is 'technical' but still roomy enough for layers so it's not overly long or baggy and there's less down under arms, etc. No michelin man look here! I'd suggest getting the large even if you normally wear a medium.

Weight on my scales for the large is 19 oz and the jacket has about 6 ounces of down. If you compare it to rival jackets/parkas with similarly tough shells and full zippers (Nunatak, FF, Golite, etc) this is quite competitive in weight .

How does it work? Just about perfect... I took it for a week long winter trip to the Adirondacks where temps went from sloshy rains in the day to -20F in camp at night and our borrowed tent was a condensation machine. The jacket performed like a champ where a lot of my other gear (notably my down sleeping bag) began to rapidly fail.

It also remain unscathed from all the bushwacking. Warmth was excellent and much better than heavier synthetics I've used in the past for such varying conditions (Patagonia DAS Parka, etc).

Needless to say, very highly recommended...
