I purchased these as a replacement for my overbuilt Montbell Stretch Windpants.
The fabric of the Trekking pants is a microgrid ripstop nylon, with a slightly textured inner surface.
Size medium fits me fine (I'm 5' 8", 155 pounds, 30 inch inseam). The cuff snaps keep the cuffs on top of my trail runners.
The pants are very simple pull-on design. After replacing the elastic drawcord with lighter material, my size medium weighs 3.9 ounces. I like the simplicity, and lack of elasticized/stiffened waistband to absorb water.
The 2 mesh lined side pockets are deep enough to hold small items while walking, and the zippered thigh pocket works well for securing small items against loss.
I've worn these pants on training walks/runs, and a day hike to a local state park. Temperatures ranged from about 40 to 65 degrees F. Worn over compression shorts, the pants were comfortable at those temps, and for sitting around the house afterward.
On one walk, a passing car splashed me with water from a puddle -- the water ran right off of the fabric.
I think the BPL Thorofare Trekking Pants will be a versatile addition to my backcountry wardrobe. The only change I would make to the design would be a cuff gusset, so they could be pulled on over trail runners, otherwise I'd give them a 5.
