Hefty Trash Compactor Bags

I line my backpack with ONE trash compactor bag. This is a waterproofing for absolutely everything.

These are heavy gage white plastic bags designed for kitchen trash compactors. I have never found anything better or lighter. They are white, so it's easy to find stuff in the bag, and they last for multiple trips.

They weigh just 2.2 ounces, and they are plenty big to line my backpack. I have extra on top to wrap over at the top for absolute waterproofing. I have no redundancy.

I do NOT use a pack cover.

If the tarp is wet in the morning, I stuff it in the bottom of my backpack FIRST and then put the compactor bag on top. So, wet and dry stuff is separated and everything stays dry INSIDE the compactor bag.

I put my rain gear on top, outside the compactor bag, because if it rains, I'll end up wearing it. Simple!

I used the Hefty Trash Compactor Bag with a MLD Ark backpack the past weekend and I was very happy with it. It allowed me to leave behind the sleeping bag stuff sack and the clothes bag which saved me about 1.4oz. I like the white color which lets you see whats at the bottom of your backpack very easily. Rain was in the forecast but it did not rain. But I am sure the trash bag would of worked great to keep all my important STUFF very dry. The Hefty bag is extra long so it allows you stuff your pack with gear then role up the excess and seal it for a great waterproof compartment. Thanks for Mike Clelland and his suggestions.
