Cody takes a direct and a funny approach on how to survive in the wilderness. A lot of information is commonsence and is also very insightful on certain things you would not know. This is a must have book for anyone who enters the wilderness for a day hike or extended stay. With the book comes alot of illustrations that very funny and right to the point.

Cody Lundin does a fine job of explaining the mental and physical aspects necessary to survive an emergency in the wilds. He also shows how to put together a sensible and affordable survival kit. He covers the bases very well and gives the reader his money's worth.

My only concern is that the people who most need to read this book probably won't. I'm talking about the droves of day-hikers I see out on the trails here in Southern California who carry no gear, no emergency equipment, not even a book of matches or a jacket. At best they might be carrying a small bottle of water in their hands as they trudge along in 90-degree heat. Every once in awhile around here one of those hikers gets lost or gets caught by darkness and winds up spending the night in the woods. Most are rescued the next day but some are taken out in body bags.

Every time I hear of a death in the wilderness areas here, I think that if the person had just read a book like Mr. Lundin's, he or she would still be with us. These are the folks I wish would read this book and take a few simple steps to keep themselves alive.
