The new Camelbak Mule is a top-notch day-tripper frameless backpack (3-season). It has enough space and compartments for nearly everything that you'll need and it is very well contructed. It also has the water reservoir for hands-free drinking.

The only thing that I can imagine is a problem is if you definitely need superb ventilation. Even though the backpad had ventilated channels, it still does not provide enough airflow to keep from sweating through your shirt on a hot day. (very few packs have solved this problem).

I have owned the Camelbak MULE for about 2 years now. It is a very light and efficient pack for day trips. The pack has 3 compartments. The largest compartment has enough space for a rain jacket, first aid kit, and some snacks. The middle is just right for my headlamp and all my odds and ends and the smaller compartment for my keys, license, etc. The pack has a quality hip belt and the shoulder straps ride very well for me. I am 6'0 and 195 lbs. I would recommend for day hiking as well as cycling.
