The Coughlan Micro Lantern is a tiny LED light shaped like a lantern. It has a clip ring on top so it can be hung from your tent zipper pull or the like. The light shines out in a 360 degree circle and lights up the inside of my shelter - even something as big as the inside of my Six Moon Designs Lunar Duo - nicely. I was able to do most in-the-tent chores just by the light of the lantern. I even read some instructions with it by holding it next to the page – I wouldn’t want to spend an hour reading a book with it though since the plastic cover is designed to diffuse the light. I was also able to write in my mini journal by its light. The two things I didn’t like: it is bright enough that I get spots in my eyes if I look directly at it, and the on/off button is hard to locate and press.

I often don’t carry a headlamp, just using a Photon light when I need to. When I need two hands, holding the light in my mouth is tiresome. This little lantern is not a necessity, but it’s nice to have along at 0.8 oz and $8.

I don't know of anything else this lightweight that will light up your whole shelter.
