Taco Bell Spork Review

As early as 1995 Taco Bell has helped to lift this otherwise mundane eating utensil to cult status and might I say ultra-light backpacking greatness!

At a scant 3grams, measuring a 14.5cm and the best part being Free!

I’ve been using Taco Bell Spork’s at home in the office and backpacking for a couple years now. Fitting perfectly inside my “Heineken Pot along with my Red Bull stove, alcohol fuel bottle, pot grabber, aluminum foil wind break and matches it’s found a permanent place in my Ultra-light Kitchen.

Someone once asked what I would do if I lost or broke my Taco Bell Spork? My response was for the weight of your over priced titanium spoon I could carry back-ups and though it would truly be a sad day if I lost my Spork that loss would be only sentimental and not financial…

I’m sure it will find its place in the Second Annual Lightitude Awards!

For now I give it a solid 5 out of 5, for Form, Function and the price Free!

the Taco bell Spork has many many uses, perhaps best known for its prowess as both a spoon, fork, and backscatcher. But if you reeeelly want the best in slick plastic performance for free, cross the road of the interstate and head to Fried Chicken of Kentucky! Instead of a puny white spork, you get the same 3 grams in sleek sexy shiny BLACK. I have to say that despite its allure, it can be sharp and pointy in your mouth (sniff sniff) and it also has durability issues, but it is the spork that is most commonly and easily obtained, so if you have a couple people on your trip and you realize you have only one spork (You have thought about it, right?), then this is your savior

I like sporks and the small, packable, featherweight and FREE Taco Bell spork is hard to beat. I do wish the bowl were just slightly larger to fit more food into my big mouth, but then the spork would have to be made heavier to avoid breakage so I guess it's just fine the way it is.

It fits perfectly into my Heineken cookpot, and even flexes slightly to fit around the other objects stored in there.

Yep, with this spork and a couple of packs of "Fire" Border Sauce, I'm set for dinner!

P.S. Regarding the durability issues raised below, I can vouch that the TB spork is quite durable if you handle it carefully. I once used one to eat every meal for two full weeks just to see how long it would last without breaking. It never did break, but the test was interrupted when my wife saw it beside the sink and threw it away, thinking it was trash. I'm going to get another one and see how long it can go. I'll bet I can get a full month out of one! -M.

I recently used the TacoHell spork on a recent 3 person trip. I had titanium spoon, but my brother and cousin did not and this was a free and light alternative. Unfortunately, two of the sporks broke after two meals. Albeit, if one were a little more careful, there shouldn't be any problems.

A Firelite Spork is only 7 bucks and only weighs 8.2 grams.

If you're in a bind, then it makes a good substitute, but I wouldn't recommend taking it on a 2+ day trip without the risk of eating with your hands.
