This is an old favorite of mine and it's really too bad that not a lot of stores carry them. They have a nice soft-but-firm consistency and enough flavor to make you forget you're eating an energy bar. I especially like the vanilla and cookies and cream flavors. Lots of calories means the energy will last me a long time before I have to eat again. Lots of protein and plenty of vitamins and minerals means my body will recover a long day of hiking a little better.

The downside is that they are susceptible to heat (the outer shell will melt and then harden into crumblyness). They tend to expire relatively fast. If they've been sitting around for more than about a month, they will be less tasty and more on the dry side, though not inedible.

These things are heavy-duty; good enough to help me make it through an afternoon's walking to dinner after a moderate lunch stop. They taste pretty decent; the 30-grams protein dulce de leche flavor is better than the somewhat gritty peanut butter.
