For the price I think that it would be very hard to find better base layers than the Outdoor Research Sequence long sleeve or short sleeve tops. They are a mix of wool and polyester, and having owned both last year and the current version, I can vouch for the massive increase and unparalleled comfort in the new shirts. The fabric is a great middle ground between synthetic and natural fibers, and I notice that it dries quickly and is almost constantly comfortable. I would say that this is a lightweight to middle weight layer, and provides the perfect winter base layer and for sitting around inside when the heat isn't on but its not quite time for a sweater or blanket. I have the longsleeve and T shirt versions and I can say that both of them fit very well and are pill resistant.

If your not sold on all synthetic or all wool base layers, or you can't afford a nice merino wool shirt, give these ones a try.
