This is one of the older redwings and it is about 3000 ci. First off let me say that this is not a lightweight backpack. It weights a little under 3 lbs. I was given this pack for next to nothing.

I would say that this falls into the bombproof gear category but that doesn't mean that it can't have applications in lightweight backpacking. It has nice ice ax loops on it. Its side pockets also have a sleeve so you can collapse your trekking poles to stow them along the sides of the pack. I find this nice for traveling or if your were to be using an ice ax. It can comfortably carry pretty heavy loads. I've carried 35 lbs and the suspension has really helped me not to notice it. It also has compression straps which help to whittle down the capacity. I attach my prolite 4 to the loops on the bottom and the bottom of the pack is the perfect size to stow a winter bag. So I find the best use to be for winter camping or hiking over a weekend. The sternum strap and hip belt really afford freedom of movement. I feel very comfortable CC skiing and snowshoeing with the pack on.

It is hydration compatible as well, and a platy 2 litre system works perfect with it.
