I bought these gaiters for what they were: a light weight (1.5 oz), breathable, water-resistant, stretchy gaiter that could keep junk and light rain/ground water out of my shoes. They do this very well. For the weight, they are durable and very comfortable. They won't fit over huge shoes (they are meant for trail runners), but seal very well over the more common choices for UL hikers. I love the stretchiness and breathability of them. They are really comfortable and work both in cool or hot weather. The Schoeller fabric does it job well. The price (I paid in the mid-$20's) is good, and they have no major downsides as long as they fit the shoes one is wearing. They are my most commonly used gaiter, and I only switch to my ID eVent shorties when I expect heavy rain or when there is serious snow. Like other relatively short gaiters, they go on before your shoes. They cord that goes under the foot wears pretty quickly (like most similar cords) and will need replaced after some use.
All in all, these gaiters are winners. They work well for most times of the year and conditions and weigh less than most of the other choices out there.
