Not comfortable for me! on 10/08/2008 11:44:01 MDT Report Post Print

Rating: 2 / 5

Like it or not, I usually end up spending a good bit of the night sleeping on my back, which means my shoulders & elbows are on the ground. The height from my torso to where my arms touch the ground makes my shoulders hurt. This is not a problem with my Prolite 4 which is not as thick. Also, my wife used it at temperatures at 33-35 degrees (F) and could feel the cold coming up from the ground.

Weight vs. comfort? It's nearly perfect on 11/05/2008 18:24:08 MST Report Post Print

I've used this pad now for a few years in a tent and tarptent from temps ranging between 25-70 degrees F. This mattress is the bomb, near perfect! The weight is the only drawback as far as I can tell. I've had no leaks (knock on wood). I over inflate it when I set up camp. Once in bed, I adjust the inflation by letting out air little by little. I sleep great. Despite the weight, it's compact when packed. My last trip, the temperature dropped to 25. Since I had packed a short bluefoam pad for sitting on and insulating the mattress, I experienced no cold mattress issues, and I use my down bag as a quilt always, so insulation except the mattress and pad underneath. I will experiment with a roll of 20 in-wide reflectix duct insulation instead of the blue foam next time the temps are low. It should work just fine and less bulky to pack than the blue foam. I would use this over snow with the pad without hesitation. I have recommended the mattress to everyone I meet on the trail and even when I see patrons at the local REI considering it. I gave it a rating of 4 only because of the weight, a trade off though for the extreme comfort and minimal bulk.

ONLY FOR SUMMER USE!!! on 11/11/2008 18:39:40 MST Report Post Print

The mattress totally sucked the heat out of me. See this thread for more info about this mattress.
Question of the day
Do not take it out on a cold night, which for me could be any night, any time of the year.

Great pad for a person under 6 ft. on 11/13/2008 17:52:20 MST Report Post Print

I really like the 2.5 in thickness and the overall weight at 20oz. I am 6"3 and to long for it. I use my backpack to rest my feet on but I was still not happy sleeping. I guess it is the horizontal baffles that I can not get use to. I have had a Prolite 4 for years and guess I am spoiled. My son is shorter and he loves it. A great sleeping pad for some one under 6ft.

Mummy Pad on 11/15/2010 11:14:50 MST Report Post Print

I got this as a freebie from Moontrail with points when I ordered a sleeping bag. I got the full-length mummy version. Although this is a bit heavier, it beats the heck out of my old Thermarest Ultralight for comfort. I am side sleeper who moves around a lot, and this pad works great for me. Nice and warm in the 20s.

Heavy but worth the comfort on 09/27/2013 08:06:48 MDT Report Post Print

I have been using these for a few years now. They are very comfortable. I bought a few of these used b/c they had leaks, fixed one on my own, the other had too many micro holes so i mailed it in (cost 10 bucks to mail) and Big Agnes mailed me a new one free of charge. They have great customer service. I have 1 new one that has never had a problem, I have either been lucky with it, or just taken better care of it. I do use it with the Big agnes sleeping bags, so that does add some protection. I've seen some other out there I may prefer, but for the cost of new pads, I will be sticking with these for the long haul.
