Simple, UL insulation for your lower half. No bells and whistles----elastic drawstring waist closure and elasticized leg cuffs, no pockets, no fly----that's it. Great materials---Pertex Quantum. Sizing runs true, not an incredibly long inseam length ---shorter than the specced length (a little over 30")--- but long enough for most tall people for it's function----it won't drag along in the dirt. The cut, although not as full as a belay pant will accommodate baselayers and/or trailpants. This is going to be just primo to add warmth to my UL sleeping set up. Nice as warm up pants in camp, too.
Weight of my sample, size large----211 g. (7.45 oz.). Something I like about BMW products----weight advertised is pretty much the max. weight you'll see and sometimes, it runs under.
Improvements? I will swap out the drawcord toggle for a smaller, lighter one. It might be nice to have an alternative version that wasn't the full sidezip. Zips up to the knee would keep weight down and allow, if done right, to slip over more than just trailrunners. Lovely if they could go over ski boots. Nothing more to add. Now a part of my basic kit. Bravo BMW! 4 1/2 stars.
