The DuoMid is the best shelter for solo hikers. Don't be misled by the "Duo" in its name - you could cram two hikers in here but it's poorly suited for that (ie. no vestibule space, crawling over each other).
With one hiker, the DuoMid is the best. Sleep in the back half and use the front half as a vestibule space. I use a net tent in the back half in the summer and just a groundsheet outside of bug season. It's nice and roomy, very light and best of all it's extremely simple to pitch yet very sturdy. It's a joy to use when the conditions are tough.
Compared to the SoloMid, you get a lot more floor area and a protected entry (ie. rain doesn't fall on your bag when you open the door). It's an extra 2oz well spent.
The cuben version is pricey but very nice. Shelters are a great appliation for cuben. Mine lacks a few extra tieouts and thus weights just 12oz. I cut the storm flap off the uretek zipper because it was a pain.
I love this thing.
