I've been using a helios ice axe since mid-winter.
This is an all titanium tool, the only one I think is available since the Ushba has gone away.
Made by Jim Stanley with a 6-4 ti head and a 3-2.5 ti shaft.
The tool is a traditional shaped axe with an aggressive tip. I found this ice axe to be very well balanced. I added a couple of rings of athletic tape for grip, it is not more slippery then other axes it is just something I do.
I wish I could give you a definitive number of how much stronger this thing is then an aluminum adventure style ice axe.
I've yet to dress the tip the ti is just too tough to dull yet.
It is available open or with a tail point and has a bottle opener built into the adze.
Jim will make these in any length and also has a more aggressive model. www.sopgear.com.
Mine is 65.5 cm with tip weighs 400 grams. The cost is $189.00 usd.[ I apologize for using sop's image, I couldn't get mine to upload.]
