Backpacking Light FireLite 500 Titanium Cookpot on 05/07/2007 19:44:00 MDT Report Post Print

Rating: 4 / 5

I waited until I received the updated lid before posting my review, so my rating applies to the pot with the new "GOOD" lid, not the old "BAD" lid. My old lid didn't seat flush against the pot. The new lid, just received today, seats perfectly flush all along the upper rim of the pot.

The fit is NOT a super-tight fit like that of the MSR Titan Kettle (see my reader review of that pot here). I consider the Titan lid to be too tight since I have to pull pretty hard to remove the lid, and can just imagine myself sloshing boiling water all over myself or my gear. The FireLite 500 lid sits on top of the pot and can be removed by simply lifting the handle - it does not "grab" the pot at all. This is better than the Titan. I'd like a happy medium, frankly - a lid that seats snugly but not too tightly. That would allow the lid seal to hold the contents inside the pot while packed. With the FireLite 500, I still have to rubber band it shut. Not a big complaint, but it rules out a "perfect" for me.

This is the best small volume ti pot around - with that slight design change, it's the ultimate.

Not surprisingly, this pot works PERFECTLY with the FireLite titanium wing stove.
