I already had some Altra Instinct shoes for general around town use (and a bit of jogging), so I knew I love the wide toe box.
I bought the Lone Peak for a recent 15 day backpack along (most of) the John Muir Trail and barely wore them before the hike.
I love these shoes! Of course, everyone's feet are different. Mine are maybe a bit narrow, not high volume. I'm 6- 0" and 150 lbs.
The grip worked as good as my old Montrail trail runners, the weight is lighter. The zero rise sole is fine for rocky tread. I didn't feel any need for more heal cushioning.
The fabric seems quite tough, as well as the laces.
And the wider-than-most-shoes toe box is a dream. I highly recommend trying some on, if you can find them.
P.S. How can I add a photo I took of the shoes? Thanks.
