In January, I had ordered a Patagonia Synchilla fleece vest for my wife (this particular color had caught her eye), from Moosejaw. The order was accepted and supposedly mailed. After about 2 weeks of not having received the package, I wrote an e-mail to the customer service dept. They apologized and said that it in fact had not been mailed. They special ordered it from Patagonia, it was supposedly shipped, but long story short, Patagonia was out of the size/color I ordered and were not getting any more in. Fast forward to a month later... this past week I get a call from Moosejaw... Patagonia had called them, they had somehow came up with a few of the vest in the size/color I wanted and they wanted to know if I was still interested, if so they would ship it out. I was and my wife is a happy girl. I thought this was an example of terrific f/u on a blown order by both Moosejaw and Patagonia.

In contrast to the previous review, I've never had a problem dealing with Moosejaw. Since mid November I've placed orders for clothing and gear for well over $1000 spread out over 12 orders. The personnel there have answered every question I've had extremely promptly by either phone or email. Orders have shipped quickly. Until you've dealt with the extremely upbeat people there, it's difficult to explain their atmosphere. "I bet we answer the phone within ten seconds". "Love the madness".

I re-visited this post since my dealings with Moosejaw have become problematic, particularly over the past year. Long waits for gear, wrong items sent, totally different attitude when finally getting to talk to someone. It went from a great place to shop to almost a chore. IIRC, the company was acquired about 18 months ago and that may have been when the deterioration began. I now only buy gear from Moosejaw when a particular item I want is on a drastic sale. I've lowered my rating from a 5 to a very generous 3.

I've got to agree with John. They are an unusual bunch there over at MooseJaw.

For convenience, I usually like to place web orders with online retailers.

Not so, in the case of MooseJaw. There's certainly nothing at all wrong with their website. It's just that it's plain fun to call them and talk to them.

Never had any type of problem with any order. However, it's nice to know that they go that extra mile, according to the first Reviewer, in the unlikely event that there is a problem. To my way of thinking, this says more about them than the other aspects of their great company and cust. srv.

I have had the same courteous and quick service that each of the last two reviewers have had with Moosejaw. I have had to return an item, and the effort that the personnel at Moosejaw exerted on my behalf with Montrail to get my desired outcome reallys speaks volumes about their concern for customer well being. I have dealt with them over the last several years and as PJ says "its just plain fun" to talk with them. And waiting to see how the salesperson answering the phone utters, "Moosejaw," is worth it. I spewed soda all over my desk that first time.

I have ordered about 800$ of gear in a few orders lately, and they did a few mistakes: they sended me the wrong tent, had to return it, got the right tent afterwards, but they charged me the shipping cost by COD, and charged me the tent AGAIN on my credit card !

I managed to get the right tent and my money back from those extra-charges after a few calls.

But hey, the people working there are very nice and Moosejaw is the only company, as I know, that ships for free in Canada.

I ordered a pair of Montrail Vitesse shoes. On the order page, it said, "Ships the next day."

The next day I received an email stating my product would be shipping five days later. I emailed and the shipping department said they had to special order it. It would be to me within two weeks.

Two weeks later. No shoes. I emailed again only to find the shoes were not available. At first they gave me the option of purchasing another pair of Montrail at their discounted price. But I could purchase the same pair elsewhere cheaper. Or, they told me they could get me the Vitesse shoes, but at a greater price.

What a crock! Don't bank on receiving a timely order from these guys.

I've been dealing with Moosejaw since the beginning of my backpacking "career." These guys are great. Always get my orders correct and the items usually arrive ahead of schedule. I've never had a single problem. Employees are always fun to chat with and get the job done. Yes they will chat with you abut anything you want to talk about. Sports, weather, politics... anything. It's just a fun company that I will continue to patron. Don't forget the free stickers you get with every order. No knife... use teeth. Love the madness.

I've made numerous transaction with moosejaw and they have always been smooth and hassle free.

their staff is knowledgable and they frequently have the best prices on gear

I do have one small nitpick, their rewards site for some reason doesn't carry all of the same gear as their main site- don't know the reason for this, but there have been times I've been frustrated not being able to purchase the item I wanted w/ my reward points
