This cup is big enough to cook in for a solo person, a huge cup of java, or it's great for just boiling water. I use a piece of simple foil for a lid and it works amazingly well on a Snowpeak Giga Stove and my Whitebox Alcohol stove.

I like the size and even carry it on trips with my 14 year old son. You can cook water at one time for a freeze dried meal and a cup of hot coco with dinner at one time, something my 300 mug wouldn't do.

2.8 ounces of gear heaven.

I've used this cup for my solo backpack trips for several years now. I also use heavy duty foil for a lid. I've now replaced it with my new FireLite 500 with lid and am excited by the prospect of having a tight fitting lid.

If the Snow Peak 600 had a lid I'd give it a 5. At 2.8 ounces plus the foil lid it is only slightly heavier than the FireLite but does have a slightly larger capacity. All my meals are boil in bag so I have never cooked in the cup and don't intend to.

At 2.8 oz with handles the Titanium Snow Peak 600 is a great pot/cup. For just boiling H2O you can't ask for more. I used the SP 600 on my JMT hike in conjunction with Esbit tabs and I had no problems at all. I added a aluminum flashing lid at 0.1 oz. to help the boiling process along which worked great. With the shape of the cookpot it is easy to store in your side pockets of your pack and you can store a lot of items in the cup. Perfect for a solo backpacker.

great solo mug on 07/11/2010 20:30:26 MDT Report Post Print

I love this little mug, if they included a lid I'd easily give a 5. As is, it's very sturdy (yet light at 2.8 oz) and well made. Plenty of volume for a solo hiker. It has ample room inside to store my esbit stove, 4 days of fuel, windscreen, mini bic and small ti spork.

I added a custom lid from four dog stoves which now makes the mug perfect- SP should seriously consider lids for all their small/medium mugs.

buy jameson 12 year old whiskey. It comes in a cardboard cannister with an aluminum cap. remove the cap. put it on your mug. it fits perfectly. transfer the whiskey to a platypus 1L. take a hike. enjoy a hot adult beverage or enjoy neat. don't forget to share.
