Tealight stove, couldn't be more impressed on 01/11/2007 10:12:15 MST Report Post Print

After not getting great results with other alcohol stoves on my SP 700 I decided to try out the tealight stove.
Nothing could be easier to 'make.' Just find an extra tealight laying around the house, tip in upside to extract the candle, and there you have it!
Its also fool-proof to use. Just put in on a level surface, fill with alcohol, and ignite. No priming needed.
All you need is a small wire pot stand, and wind screen and you're set.
As for performance, I couldn't be happier. I'm now able to boil 16 oz of room temp. water in about 10 minutes on only 1/2 oz of alcohol.
Its also light as a feather. It doesn't even register on my digital scale, granted it only measures in 2 gram increments. Its far lighter than the Supercat I had been using and I thought that weighed almost nothing.
As for drawbacks, the slow time to boil may not suit some people, but I'm not in any real hurries when I'm using it anyway, unless I'm really hungry. It is also very delicate, but that also means it can be reshaped very easily if it gets crushed.
I'm very satisfied with my little tealight and it has become my go-to stove.

I completely agree with the above review. It's amazing how something so simple and cheap (what do tealights cost, maybe a nickle each if you buy them in bulk?) can work so well. They are perfect for solo cup and beer can set-ups that boil about 16 ounces of water. They are light, cheap, efficient, and don't use much fuel. How can you beat that??
