This is just a fun and addicting site. It is owned by Backcountry.com. They post one item for sale at a time, and the deals are simply the best to be found on the product that comes up. When the item sells out, another one is added, so some days few items hit the site, others, you may have 20 items that ended up on the site during the day. The customer service and shipping have been the best I have experienced. Some of the items you may not want, but it is all outdoor gear, name brand stuff. If any problem, Backcountry.com serves as the parent to handle returns, etc.. I truly believe if you try, you will like it, but be warned. The deals are such you end up spending a lot of $$$ because the deals are so good.

I have purchased a few items and was suprised but very pleased with how fast they processed and shipped my orders. I usually recieved the items 2-3 days after I bought them.

If you find something you need or just have to have the prices can't be beat. I recently skied with someone who works for backcountry.com (owns SAC) who said that its prices are lower than what an employee pays. I've seen everything from great skis to water bottles at unbelievable prices.

From a recent S & C email:

"My friend used to buy new headlights for his car from Shopko when one would burnout, then he'd put the old ones back in the boxes and return them. A genius plan, thought likely illegal on some level. It's people like him that ruined what Target-like stores ran effectively as a free rental program. Another friend would buy walkie-talkies anytime we'd go on a two-car convoy road trip and then return them when we got home. At first he'd buy the really cheap ones, so we'd have to basically be pulled up right next to each other in traffic and shouting back and forth into the walkie-talkies. It was sometimes easier to just look at the person in the other car and ignore their garbled screams coming out of your walkie-talkie."

Notice that this is treated as if it was a cool thing to do.

never let me down on 02/04/2009 15:16:44 MST Report Post Print

I buy something from S&C pretty much every month and they have never let me down, been late with an item, or failed to accept a return.

I also think that the above poster was too harsh and clearly didn't get the joke.

Also, these reviews are for customer service, not compliance with morality.

Decent deals but sleazy tactic/slogan... on 10/06/2011 23:13:19 MDT Report Post Print

"One item at a time until it's gone" is a lie. The item you want might just pop back up later on. This happened to me last year (and in all fairness maybe they've changed since then)-- I had ordered something in a color/size combo that wasn't quite right because my 1st choice was "gone" according to their site. And I hadn't much experience with shopping for gear bargains online at that time, so I thought it was a fantastic deal and I was willing to chance it. However, later (like within 24 hrs), my 1st choice reappeared. Apparently it wasn't "gone" after all.

It's a misleading slogan and almost unethical. And really, now that I have more online shopping under my belt, S&C's savings are comparable to what's offered elsewhere in outlets and on sale, if you keep your eyes open...
