LARABARs are incrediblly tasty little bars. I'm not an especially vegan or all-natural type of person, but it's really incredible that they can use so few ingredients and yet still craft a snack that actually tastes like its name. The cherry pie actually tastes like cherry pie! which is really an amazing sensation when you're out on the trail miles from a dutch oven or any kind of canned cherries and pie crust. It's like a magic trick, though, because all they use in the cherry pie bars are cherries, dates and almonds... In a way it makes a lot of sense. Dates would be the sucrose substitute since a good date is essentially just crystallized sugar. Almonds have a lot of fat in them to add flavor and also add some crunch, and dried cherries are full of sugar, and of course cherry flavor.
I've tried the cashew cookie, which is good, albeit a tad on the dry side, and the apple pie, which predictably tastes just like a fresh apple pie (so much so that I almost need to have it a la mode for the full effect.
The Trader Joes in my neck of the woods only has a handful of flavors, but I checked the LARABAR website and there are some really interesting flavors.
Definitely the best thing to happen to energy bars in a long time.
The only down side is the relatively low calorie and protein content per bar, but all I do to substitute is bring a couple Promax and ProteinPlus bars along on trips as well.
