SP131- Sawyer Squeeze Filter – multiple capacity

The NEW Sawyer Squeeze Filter is the lightest and most versatile filtration system on the market. With a total field weight of 3 ounces, it is extremely lightweight and packable. This product includes 3 pouches (12oz, 16oz and 32oz) that can be reused hundreds of times. Fill up the pouch of your choice at a lake, stream or river, screw the filter directly onto the pouch and:


1) Squeeze the bag and filter water into your water bottle or container of choice.


2) Drink directly from the filter which has a built in push pull cap for on/off functions.


3) Attach the filter onto most threaded water bottles including 2 liter bottles. The Squeeze filter is perfect for traveling abroad where tap and bottle water cannot be trusted

Biological Filtration: removes 7 log (99.99999%) of all bacteria like salmonella, cholera, and E. coli. And 6 log (99.9999%) of all Protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium. You will find these removal rates to equal or exceed competitive options. EPA guidelines allow ten times more Protozoa left in the water than we allow.
I purchased for $45.99 on Ebay from Adventure Safety Products.

Weights on my scale:
Housing with all caps and washer = 68g or 2.4 oz.
Backflush syringe = 33 g or 1.15 oz.
12 oz bag = 15 g or .55oz.
16 oz. bag = 18 g. or .65oz.
32 oz. bag = 22 g or .8 oz.

I squeezed 2 gal. of fairly clear well water through the filter using the 16oz. bag without any noticeable drop off in flow.The flow is equal to that of a pop up squeeze water bottle. I would not want to fill a lot of pots for a group but for 1 or 2 the flow is reasonable.
Backflushing is fairly easy with the syringe but works far better using the white rubber washer to create a better seal. I also added a 3/4 inch piece of tubing to the syringe but this is not necessary. I found a 16 oz. water bottle worked better than the syringe therefore saving 1.15 oz. Both ends of the filter are threaded making it easy to attach a variety of bags and bottles.The white washer falls out easily and I will probably carry a spare.

Pros:
Reasonable weight
Simple field use and backflushing
Compact unit

Nitpicks:
Washer is easy to lose
Squeezing large a volume of water is tedious.
Would be nice if syringe or backflush bottle could be threaded on to housing.
Not for freezing conditions.
