This is exactly what I've been looking for in a groundcloth. Extremely lightweight(1.5 oz.) AND tough.

Before coming across this I was using a space blanket(3 oz.) which, if I was lucky, would give me 3 or 4 nights of use before starting to shred.

I used my polycryo ground cloth on an 11-day backpack in Dark Canyon, UT on sand, sandstone, and pine needles. I've also used it 4 nights in the Wasatch Mtns on your typical forest floor(pine needles, roots, rocks) and it's still going strong. No holes larger than pinhole size yet.

This was exactly what I was looking for as well. (Came in blue and white when I ordered.)

It doesn't make a lot of noise, it compacts well and the weight is low for the size and functionality at 5 oz.

It is also durable in our use of it. No rocks or pine needles have punctured it and it has had some use. We use it under our MH Tri-lite 2 and our GG/HS Squall Classic.

I got the larger size for the extra flooring in front of the tent under the alcove. Something like 70" x 94".

Here is what really gives it a 5 -- wear it as a cape or cut a slit in the middle of the larger zize and it is an emergency rain tarp/poncho. The slit seems to have no effect on its ability to serve as a groundcloth, might put a touch of duct tape at each end of the slit.

And, the price is really fair for hi-tech fabric -- they are listing it now for like $6.00 for the large -- might be a web site mistake, the same price as the smaller ones.

Every now and then you do find a piece of gear that does just what you need. That's the Gossamer Gear Polycryo Ground Cloth. It's light. I roll it up and stick it in my pack's external pocket. It has no punctures after repeated use. 2 for $5. It's a bargain. The GG Polycryo Ground Cloth has been part of my transition to a poncho/tarp.

I have tried a few different ground cloths (footprints from tents-heavy!, Tyvek, plastic sheeting), but this one is my favorite. It is light, pretty cheap, durable if used intelligently, and waterproof. What more can I say; as long as one doesn't camp on really vicious ground, it should last for quite a while and keep your supplies dry and protected.

Just what I want. Have used many things for groundcloth. Very tear & puncture resistant. Used mine nightly for 4 months on AT thru hike. Finally punctured/tore small hole during packing (MY Fault); still finished hike with it. Never bothered to duct tape it, so tear got bigger. Bummer.

Now at home after several more trips, I finally broke out the second one shipped with it.

Much quieter & ligher and more compact than Tyvec and others.

Perfect balance of minimizing tears, punctures and blocking moisture,etc.

Ditto to above comments. After a week on the Muir Trail I expected it to be in shreds. I've used it on subsequent trips, Aaron Sorensen and Michael Popov used it for half a lap around Lake Tahoe and it's still got lots of life left. The fairly useless small size has been discontinued and the large is a thicker, much heavier material. One size medium/person is the way to go.

Ive always used 3 mil thick plastic as my ground cloth. Im on the east coast and we have to use a truly waterproof ground cloth here. I ordered the polycro from Gossamer Gear and I like it. Its not as rugged as 3 mil plastic or even 2 mil plastic, but the stuff is super light and more compact than traditional groundcloths.

I like it...just be more careful with it in the backcountry.

I've used one for three years and it's still totally usable; the 2nd one that came in my original order is probably not gonna need to be used for another season. Crinkly in the wind, but for the weight..? Totally amazing. Great materials choice, Gossamer Gear!

I have used these in combination with my new MLD DuoMid for six nights now. Aside from being wrinkled up, you can't tell that they have been used. Light, compact to pack, tough and strong. What's not to like? I carry both sheets to use in my DuoMid to be able to take best advantage of all the floor room. A winning combination.

I love this because it makes me feel clean. I know, it's odd, but it really makes me feel that my sleeping bag and quilt will remain clean.
