Used this bag for a couple of years on numerous hiking trips BEFORE getting into lightweight backpacking. As an example of a traditional backpack, it is one of the best out there. Berghaus' bioflex suspension system makes this 6LB backpack feel weightless as you hike, moving the pack as you move, rather than forcing you to fight the weight. The hip belt and spine system are essentially attached to you, and the pack flexes as you hike.
The pack has 65L main pack capacity, including a lower (external access) sleeping bag section and a simple hydration chamber. The lower section was large enough for me to carry both my Nemo Gogo bivy tent and my semi-lightweight sleeping bag. The main compartment is huge and will easily accommodate most traditional backpacking needs - it has generous expansion/compression folds on both sides.
In addition to the 65L main section, the pack has 2x 5L side pockets, which are plenty big enough to hold gloves, hat, waterproofs etc, and a small floating lid which can house your cell phone maps & compass and emergency snacks etc.
All in all, a great traditional pack. Not lightweight. Hence 4/5.
