I bent the piston that operates the shock system in the lower section of my 2008 Super Makalu pole when it came loose in some very wet snow descending Cashmere Mountain Alpine Lakes Wilderness. All it took was a short email explanation to Leki on 5/26 and on 5/27 Karen called from Leki headquarters and stated that my replacement section was being shipped free of charge and just needed to verify my shipping address. Pole section quickly arrived as promised.
This was much better than returning my poles to REI, because if this happens again in the course of my mountaineering/scrambling then I can reasonable assume that the Super Makalu locking mechanism is not up to their advertising and I will have a clean conscious returning my Leki's to REI for a robust pair of Black Diamonds.
