A serious competitor to the Simmerlite, because of its fuel efficiency and cleaner burning (better for tents, vestibules, snow caves, etc) for melting snow in the winter. There is still some question about its ability to perform in seriously cold (subzero) conditions, but the Simmerlite suffers here as well (use an XGK with its larger generator tube for subzero conditions). Also, the Xtreme is still too heavy, but there are options to modify it.

Make this a sub-8-oz stove and it gets a strong 5.

I agree with Ryan, that it is heavier than it needs to be. I don't have temperatures below 0 F. It is efficient with fuel, easy to use, and I just love this stove for my winter camping in the desert of Colorado/Utah with temperature well below freezing but normally no lower than 5-10 F. Until Coleman or someone else comes out with a better alternative, I'll give it a 5.

I have been using the Xtreme in the snow for many years. I have never ever had any problems with it. It lights and runs completely reliably.
It will run down to -26 C (-15 F) because the gas mix in the canister boils at that low temperature. Warm the canister a little and no worries.
Also, it is very stable - I use a little circle of 3-ply to support it in the snow. Never lost a pot yet.

A buddy of mine used this the last time we snowshoed...most impressive cold weather performance I've seen for a canister stove aside from being somewhat fiddly to operate with thick gloves when it's 30 below, and the frequent spluttering (no more than a couple lesser white gas units though).
I'm curious as to why it's being reviewed under the white gas category though.
