Comfortable and warm. The less hair you have on your scalp, the more you'll love this beanie. I give it a 5.

I've worn it in mostly cool-cold dry, but a few raining and one sleet/snowy. It kept my noggin toasty and is pretty light weight.

Because of all the hype about this product being so warm, I decided to order one in spite of the price. The beanie is well-made and a good fit, however I was extremely disappointed after wearing it in the Northwestern part of Nevada during Christmas. With a rather mild breeze and the temperature at about 25 degrees, I found the cold wind going right through the loose weave of the hat. Without a hood on my down jacket, it only made me wish I'd brought by Icebreaker beanie instead.

I tried the beanie (and gloves and socks) when they first came out in NZ. They are a nice, soft novelty item, but not worth the weight in my pack when it comes to warmth. My fleece windstopper beanie is far superior for the weight.

I don't think that a possum down beanie is worth it's weight. The best hat out there for warmth, weight and wind proof is the Integral Designs Primalid...it's my hat of choice.

The one complaint I have about the Possumdown beanie is that it is heavier than advertized. Mine is 2.1 ounces. The reason I love it is because it's so large and very warm, The extra coverage, and the ability to layer this over the tight fitting hood of my Nomad hoodie makes this an essential part of my cold weather kit. Another reviewer brought up the Integral Designs Primalid, which weighs the same amount, but for my part, I'm not a big fan of Primaloft. The slightest bit of pressure is enough to reduce its loft to zero and then you just have a windproof hat. With a wool beanie, you can lay on it, get it wet, put as much pressure on it as possible, and it will still retain its loft and ability to warm.
