This light (53 g) and warm headwear is part of my sleeping system and its so comfortable that I consider it a camp luxury as well (since I don't pack in camp shoes). The best thing about the beanie is you can get a loose, draped fit over the ears that keeps your skull warm (double layered wool) but feels as light as a feather because it articulates with you during the night.

soft, it also breathes very well. but after a summit try on mt washington in the white mtns in late Dec, i need a windproof hat. the wind that day above treeline was 40-70mph with stronger gusts. i now wear it under a mountain hardware windstopper beanie

Warm and versatile. Dries quickly, blocks light wind, and warm into the twenties. My only complaint is that it doesn't maintain its shape after prolonged use it becomes loose fitting.

I really like this little hat. I can use it in the winter to stay warm during the day and night.

In the summer, it can be used with a quilt or light sleeping bag to stay warm at night.

Almost perfect woolen skull cap, have multiple colors but most definitely needs 5-10% lycra spandex to prevent the sag after multi-day use. Folding the edge up makes for warmer ear coverage. Seam in back could be a bit flatter for smoother fit. If the wool wasn't so darn nice and light, sans the other comments I'd give the Smarwool Cuffed Beanie (actual style name)a 5, but instead 4.75.

So it is not the warmest, most weatherproof hat there is. I do not want it to be. It fits great, has a very nice stretch and provides great coverage. It is worn a lot of the time and gives me that extra warmth that I like. It is not too heavey and thats why I love it. Its the beanie I use the majority of my time outside.

I've yet to experience any stretch or sag with mine.

It's warm but not too warm, tight (but not too) on my big head, and most importantly long enough to cover my ears. It wicks very well and dries pretty fast for wool.

It's my go-to deep winter ski hat and year-round sleeping and camp hat.

I have worn this beanie a ton. Unlike so many "one size fits all", this one actually fits my somewhat large head. Is it wind proof, no. Is it for extreme cold, no. But, it does fill the gap between no hat and a seriously warm one. It does stretch out a bit with use but since I wear it so much I wash it every couple months and it looks and fits just like new. Great little hat!
